Yoga studios
A yoga studio is a specialized location where yoga classes take place under the instruction of an experienced yoga tutor. The perfect place to practice your asanas, a yoga studio offers a calm and relaxed area for you to get away from your everyday life and focus on your technique. A yoga studio can also be used for other fitness activities including Pilates or aerobics, and classes will usually be divided into levels of ability, such as beginners, intermediate and advanced.

Yoga studios are used for all types of yoga. Whether you’re trying out Hatha yoga, Sivananda yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Raja yoga or even Yogilates (a combination of Pilates and Yoga), you will use a yoga studio to practice in - either in a one-to-one session or a group class. Most studios will have hard floors, as you will be expected to use a yoga mat to exercise on and though styles vary, instructors may play music and even burn incense to create the right atmosphere for the teaching of their yoga. Many studios also have mirrors lining the walls to aid with your positioning and following your teacher, though this is more likely in gyms as a standard feature for aerobics and workout rooms.
If the studio is part of a gym or fitness centre, it may also be called a practice room or yoga room. Independent yoga studios are likely to offer more classes than gyms throughout the day, as gyms have other activities running which may use the same space. Some yoga enthusiasts feel studio yoga as being more traditional and spiritual than yoga based in gym classes, which tend to be more fitness-driven. So if you're more interested in chanting than panting, a yoga centre may suit you better.
Yoga studios are an ideal place to practice and learn with like-minded people. Whether you're starting your new health kick in style or you're an experienced yoga fanatic, finding a yoga studio to meet your needs is easy. With more and more teachers training in the know-how of yoga and followers discovering the benefits, classes are filling up fast- so get booking!
